For the Birch

They bought it for the birch
Then the birch was gone
She planted daffodils
Life goes on

They almost lost it all
When the winter came
She started over
Seasons change

Looking at her picture
I can almost hear her saying–

She’d say, “Kick off your Mary Janes and
Your coat and gloves and hang your hat
It doesn’t matter where.
Come sit beside me, and
We can talk about it.”
Wish that I could go back there.

OO, when I lose my way, I lose my light
OO, what would she say to me tonight?

Some days are out of focus,
Sometimes you can’t explain.
There’s a bigger picture
Outside the frame.

When you’re too stuck in it
You can’t see beyond it.
Take a slow minute.
Remember life goes on.

Your coat and gloves and hang your hat,
It doesn’t matter where.
Come sit beside me.
And we can talk about it.
Wish that I could go back there.

OO, I lose my way, I lose my light.
OO, what would she say to me tonight?

OO, I lost my way, I’ve lost my light.
OO, what would she say to me?
OO, I lost my way, I’ve lost my light.
OO, what would she say to me?

Kick off your Mary Janes
Your coat and gloves and hang your hat
It doesn’t matter where.
